Gao is No. 15 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and ranked No. 19 by the American Junior Golf Association. He was the runner-up in the 2021 TaylorMade Invitational. In 2020, he won the AJGA Callaway Junior Classic. Gao plans on attending Stanford University.
